Introduction
The STCW – Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than fast rescue boats (PCRB) training gives seafarers
who must take charge of a group life-saving device or a lifeboat (other than fast rescue boats) in emergency situations
The essential education and training for the required tasks.
Objective
Upon completion of the course, the participant will be able to take the lead in preparing, embarking and launching a rescue vessel as stated in the STCW “crew rescue vessels”
Target Audience
For any seafarer on board who is designated as a lifeboat crew member on a ship.
Eligibility Requirements
The student must possess:
- A valid marine medical certificate
- A valid CoC according to STCW (incl. Manila Amendments)
- A valid Basic Safety Training certificate
- be at least 18 years of age
- Have not less than 6 months of sailing time
- good health and physically able to participate in hands-on exercises. (confined spaces and heat loads)
Course content
- concerns regarding keeping the vessel in operational condition
- Take charge aboard a lifeboat, during launching and afterward
- operation of a lifeboat engine
- dealing with survivors and the lifeboat after a ship is abandoned
- practical handling of lifeboats, including launching and sailing
- handling communication devices, location beacons and distress signals
- giving first aid to survivors
- evaluation
The course is taught in Dutch or English.
Certification
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will receive the certificate:
Proficiency in Survival Craft & Rescue boats other than fast rescue boats, STCW reg. VI/2, section A-VI/2-1, Table A VI/2-1
