(2.7) F (Fall rescue boat)
Introduction:
Every offshore mining installation that is manned, permanently or temporarily, is equipped with one or more rescue craft that allow persons on board to leave the installation in case of emergency. The lifeboat can either be of the conventional type, such as a lifeboat or capsule that is lowered using traps, or a trap-type lifeboat. Training should be given to persons designated as mate(s) operating the rescue vessel.

Course type:
Emergency training (specialized).

Target audience:
Persons designated as the helmsman of a lifeboat (conventional lifeboat/capsule or fall rescue boat).

Objective:
Delegates train in the preparation, launch and operation of a rescue vessel used on an offshore mining installation.

Learning Objectives:

Maintain the rescue vessel in operational condition.
Contribute to/execute exercises.
Responding to alarm signals.
Preparing the rescue vessel for launch.
Allowing passengers to board.
Launching the rescue vessel.
Navigate the rescue vessel and move to a safe area.
Communicate by radio and/or other means.
Ensuring passenger safety.
Disembark passengers at a safe place.
Note: Depending on the length of the course, either the conventional lifeboat/capsule or the fall rescue boat or the full range of rescue craft will be included in the curriculum.

Practice:
Efficient execution of all techniques listed in the learning objectives, including at least one fall for the F (fall rescue boat) helmsman during basic training, consisting of:

Performing all necessary operations for launch, use of the “simul-drop” is permitted.
One trap, where letting passengers board is allowed.
Prerequisites for practical exercises:
Maximum of 6 trainees per lifeboat.

Duration of the course:
Basic Course:

Three (3) days, when combined with course 2.3 (Coxswain Fast Rescue Craft), it becomes four (4) days.
Refresher course:

The duration of the refresher course is as follows:
One (1) day when the program includes only the conventional rescue boat/capsule or only the drop rescue boat.
One and one-half (1½) days when the course includes both conventional lifeboat/capsule and drop rescue.
Note 1:
For trainees who have taken the basic course and/or refresher course in only one type of lifeboat, e.g., 2.7(C) conventional, and are then faced with another type of lifeboat, e.g., (F) fall rescue system, it is permissible to take the 2.7b (F) refresher course, which lasts 1 day, or 1½ days if both types are covered. As a result, the common part of both Basic Course 2.7aC and 2.7aF need not be redone.

Note 2:
A certificate of proficiency in lifeboats and lifeboats, other than fast lifeboats, based on STCW-78, as amended, may be accepted provided that the date of issuance of the certificate is less than 2 years prior to enrollment in the course.

Prerequisite for participation:
Offshore medical certificate.

Validity:
Two (2) years.
