Objective

At DRTC, we understand the importance of providing adequate assistance to those in need. The Basic First Aid course aims to train participants so they can administer first aid to the best of their ability. This course provides essential knowledge and skills to act responsibly during accidents, illnesses, impending drowning and other emergencies.

Target

The Basic First Aid course is designed for anyone 16 years of age and older who wants to be trained for the unit diploma in first aid. It is valuable training for both personal development and providing assistance to others in emergency situations.

Course content

During the Basic First Aid course, the following topics are covered:

  1. Knowledge of the human body:
    • Anatomy and physiology
    • Recognizing physical disorders
  2. Disorders of vital signs:
    • Consciousness disorders
    • Respiratory problems
    • Circulatory disorders
  3. Local disorders and shock:
    • Wounds, bruises and sprains
    • Bleeding and shock
  4. Situations and accidents that may lead to disturbances in vital signs and local disorders:
    • Burns
    • Poisons
    • Electrical accidents
    • Drowning
  5. Special skills, minor injuries and bandaging:
    • CPR and use of an AED
    • First aid for minor injuries
    • Bandages and tools

Certification

Upon successful completion of the Basic First Aid course, the student receives a diploma as proof that he or she can administer first aid responsibly. This diploma guarantees the quality of the first aid provided and the competence of the first aider.

Validity

As a first aider, it is important to maintain the knowledge and skills acquired by taking follow-up classes. The unit diploma in first aid is valid for two years. After this period, it is necessary to take continuing education classes to extend the validity of the diploma.

Course duration

The Basic First Aid course lasts for 3 consecutive working days.

Lesson times

Class times for the course are from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Exams

Examination takes place from 1 p.m. on the last day of classes
