STCW – Advanced Fire Fighting (AFF).

Introduction
The STCW – Advanced fire fighting (AFF) training course aims to provide training in advanced fire fighting in accordance with STCW Regulations 1978,
as amended in 2010, REG.VI/3, Sec.A-VI/3 Para.5, and Table A-VI/3.
The emphasis of the training is on organization, tactics and command. Upon meeting the minimum proficiency standard for advanced firefighting, the trainee is able to command, organize and train firefighting teams, and lead firefighting operations.

When meeting the minimum proficiency standard for advanced firefighting, the student is able to command, organize and train firefighting crews, and lead firefighting operations.
The seafarer has acquired knowledge of fire prevention and is able to inspect and maintain fire detection and fire extinguishing systems and equipment.
He is also able to investigate and report fire incidents.

Objective
Upon completion of the course, the trainee will be able to organize thorough firefighting operations and ensure effective firefighting, putting the safety of those on board first.

Target group
Officers with a sailing license as watch officer according to the Dutch maritime crew legislation (obligation) and STCW, incl. Manila Amendments.

Conditions for participation
De cursist dient in het bezit te zijn van:

• een geldige geneeskundige verklaring voor de zeescheepvaart
• A valid Basic training certificate (STCW 2010).
• good health and physically able to participate in hands-on exercises. (including respirator use, confined spaces and heat exposure)

Course content
The course is divided into a theory and a practical part with the following topics:

Theory:

• safety
• fire emergencies
• fire theory
• fire control on board ships
• use of protective equipment with respect to fire

Practice:

• command and control
• use proper extinguishing agents
• use of breathing apparatus
• fire suppression of indoor and outdoor fires

Certification
Na het succesvol doorlopen van de cursus ontvangt de cursist het certificaat:

Proficiency in Advanced Fire Fighting, STCW reg. VI/3, section A-VI/3, Table A VI/3
