In this module, you will gain knowledge and skills to perform basic mechanical tasks in a wind turbine environment. Whether you are new to the wind energy industry or already have some basic knowledge, this training will help you become aware of the hazards and risks associated with working on mechanical systems, and how to control these hazards.

Objectives: Upon successful completion of the BTTM module, you will have acquired the following skills and knowledge:

  • Describe the major components, mechanical systems and basic operation of wind turbines.
  • Discuss risks and hazards associated with mechanics.
  • Explaining the principles of bolted joints and welding, and inspecting them.
  • Application of manual tightening and measuring tools.
  • Recognize the principles of a gearbox and braking systems.
  • Perform inspections of brake systems, cooling systems and lubrication systems.
