Target audience:

This course is designed for individuals assigned to be part of a firefighting and rescue team on an offshore mining installation.

Objective:

The purpose of the NOGEPA 2.6A Member Fire-Fighting and Rescue Team Offshore course is to train participants in the theory and practice of fire-fighting and rescue operations.

Learning Objectives:

The following learning objectives will be covered during the course:

• The role of a firefighting and rescue team on an offshore mining installation.
• Respond to alarms, such as going to the assembly point and selecting and wearing the necessary personal protective equipment.
• Principles and procedures of a firefighting and rescue team.
• Principles and procedures when working with breathing apparatus.
• Use of firefighting equipment such as hoses and nozzles, reels, portable Class A and Class B fire extinguishers, fire blankets, etc.
• Firefighting for fires inside, on installations and helicopters.
• Rescue of crew and passengers from a burning helicopter.
• Provide assistance for incidents, such as gas leaks, oil and chemical spills, as well as incidents involving injured victims, etc.
• Cleaning and maintenance of used equipment.
• Maintain effective communication.
• Escape from smoke-filled rooms using an escape mask.

Practical exercises:

The practical exercises focus on efficiently performing all the techniques mentioned in the learning objectives. Participants will have the opportunity to apply their skills in realistic scenarios, such as fighting helicopter fires with monitors, fire hoses and portable extinguishers, as well as rescuing crew and passengers from a burning helicopter.

Prerequisites for practical exercises:

A firefighting and rescue team must consist of at least 4 people. There must be 2 instructors per group and a maximum of 6 participants per instructor to ensure adequate supervision and guidance.

Duration:

The basic course has a duration of 4 days. The refresher course, designed for participants renewing their certification, lasts 2 days.

Validity:

The certificate obtained from the NOGEPA 2.6A Member Fire-Fighting and Rescue Team Offshore course is valid for two (2) years. After this period, participants must take a refresher course to update their skills and renew their certificate.
