STCW - Bridge Resource Management Training (BRM).

Introduction
Good cooperation on board, as well as between shore organization and ship, is crucial for the safety of ship and crew. Therefore, this Bridge Resource Management – BRM course is not only intended for seafarers but can also be an inspiration for shore organization representatives.

Objective

Developing knowledge and skills to strengthen team spirit among the crew with a focus on increasing and ensuring safety to prevent accidents.

Target

Captains & mates
Interested representatives of shore-based organizations.

Conditions for participation

To be eligible for certification, participants must hold or be in training for a Mate, Marof degree.

Participants not in possession of the above degrees or studying for them will receive a certificate of participation.

Course content

The course covers the following topics:

– Managing and leading a bridge/machine room team
– manage and collaborate within a bridge/machine room team
– cooperation of bridge and engine room team
– task and workload distribution
– dealing with standard, (un)ordinary and/or emergency situations
– responding to successive events
– Interpreting and observing situations
– decision-making on board, under pressure and within the shipping company
– practical use of operational and special procedures as well as safety regulations
– communication
– cultural differences

A bridge and engine room simulator will be used during the course.

Certification

Upon successful completion of the course, the participant will receive an internationally recognized BRM or ERM certificate according to:

– Table A-II/1 for Bridge Resource Management.
– Table A-II/2 and A-III/2 for Use of Leadership and Managerial Skills.
– Table A-II/1, A-III/1 and A-III/6 for Application of Leadership and Teamworking Skills of the STCW Manila Amendments.

Participants not in possession of a mate, marine engineer or marof degree or studying for one will receive a certificate of participation.
