The Maritime Dutch Law Assessment (online) assesses your knowledge of Dutch law required to obtain and have a sailing license recognized. Captains, first mates and chief engineers must prove their knowledge of Dutch law.

This assessment is specially designed for captains of non-Dutch nationality who wish to sail under the Dutch flag (Seafarers Act May 3, 2014).

To participate in the exams, you need:

  • Good command of the English language as the exam will be conducted orally in English.
  • Ensign or engineer training according to STCW 1978 (including Manila Amendments 2010).
  • The participant must have studied the syllabus thoroughly and made available by DRTC via email([email protected]).

– Penal Code
– International Regulations for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea (Colregs).
– Prevention of Pollution from Ships Act (APPS).
– Prevention of Pollution from Ships Decree (DPPS).
The (oral – online) STCW Maritime Dutch Law Assessment exam takes about 60 minutes. Use of the syllabus is permitted during the exam.
Exam can also be taken online (via Microsoft Teams) and is available upon request.
