The importance of effective collaboration between the crew on board and the shore organization is crucial for the safety of both the ship and its crew. These courses not only provide seafarers with the opportunity to expand their knowledge, but also allow representatives from shore organizations to gain inspiration.
The main goal of these courses is to develop knowledge and skills that strengthen teamwork among the crew, with a specific focus on enhancing and ensuring safety to prevent accidents.
The courses are intended for captains, officers, ship engineers, and marofs, as well as representatives from shore organizations who are interested in improving their insight and collaboration with ship teams.
To be eligible for certification, participants must hold a diploma as a Deck Officer, Ship Engineer, or Marof, or be in training for these diplomas. Participants who do not meet these requirements will receive a certificate of attendance.
The course covers a wide range of topics, including managing and leading a bridge and engine room team, teamwork within these teams, task allocation, handling standard and emergency situations, decision-making under pressure, use of procedures and safety regulations, communication, and cultural differences. The course utilizes a bridge and engine room simulator from Noorderpoort College, with experienced instructors from the organization providing support.
