Target Group

This course is intended for anyone designated to perform first aid tasks within a first aid organization on an offshore mining installation, such as medical staff, safety officers, and employees with a first aid background.

Objective

The aim of the course is to provide participants with the required knowledge and skills to:

  • Provide first aid to victims of accidents or acute illness on a mining installation;
  • Accompany sick or injured persons during transport from the workplace to shore;
  • Coordinate and assist in major accidents involving multiple victims;
  • Manage the first aid equipment on the offshore installation; and

Day 1 - Life-Saving First Aid and Resuscitation

The first day of the NOGEPA 2.2 Offshore First Aid course focuses on the fundamentals of providing emergency medical care on offshore installations. Participants learn the five key steps of first aid, how to recognize life-threatening conditions, and how to perform emergency transport and CPR. Topics include consciousness and breathing disorders, AED use, and managing bleeding, wounds, and shock. The day combines theoretical instruction with hands-on exercises using manikins and AED trainers.

Day 2 - Injuries, Bandaging Techniques, and Special Emergencies

Day two builds on practical skills in treating wounds, burns, fractures, eye and ear injuries, and temperature-related conditions such as hypothermia and heatstroke. Participants also learn to handle poisonings, bites, and stings and to apply a variety of bandages correctly. The day emphasizes practical application through realistic first aid exercises relevant to offshore environments.

Day 3 - Exam Preparation and Practical Assessment

The third day focuses on review and examination preparation. Participants apply their knowledge and skills during simulated emergency scenarios involving a casualty actor (LOTUS). The day concludes with the official NOGEPA 2.2 Offshore First Aid examination.

The final day, for those taking the Module 2.2a, covers advanced medical procedures including radio medical advice, medical documentation, vital sign monitoring, intramuscular injections, splinting fractures, and casualty transport.
