About this course

WID - Manoeuvring (Azimuth Thrusters)

Introduction
Wind Turbine Installation Vessels rely on azimuth thrusters for exceptional manoeuvrability during positioning, installation, and transfer operations. Mastering these systems requires understanding hydrodynamic forces and the effects of wind, current, and waves. This course combines theoretical knowledge with practical or simulator-based exercises to develop accurate handling and station-keeping techniques.

Objective
The objective of this training is to equip participants with the competence to safely and effectively manoeuvre azimuth-propelled WIDs. Upon completion, participants will be able to use thrusters for precise positioning, heading control, and dynamic operations during offshore wind installation and maintenance work.

Target Group
This course is intended for:

  • Masters, mates, and officers responsible for manoeuvring Wind Turbine Installation Vessels
  • DP operators and technical staff involved in propulsion and positioning operations
  • Personnel serving on azimuth-driven vessels such as heavy-lift ships, cable layers, or offshore support vessels
