Entry Requirements
Participants must:
• Hold a valid Certificate of Competency (CoC) in accordance with STCW ’95 or an equivalent qualification.
• Have completed their first onboard training period if they are maritime academy students (at least SMBW level or comparable nautical knowledge).
• Have an adequate command of the Dutch and/or English language.
Course Content
The course includes both theoretical and practical components, covering:
• Laws and regulations
• Types of electronic charts
• ECDIS data
• Presentation and display of ECDIS information
• Basic navigation functions and settings
• Specific functions for route planning
• Specific functions for route monitoring and chart corrections
• Display and integration of other navigational information
• Data errors or misinterpretations on screen
• Status indications, indicators, and alarms
• Documentation and integrity monitoring
• Backup procedures
• Dangers of overreliance on ECDIS
Certification
Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive the ECDIS Certificate, in accordance with:
• The relevant sections of Tables A-II/1, A-II/2, and A-II/3, and Part B, Section B-I/12 paragraphs 36–66 of the STCW Code (including the 2010 Manila Amendments).
• The relevant provisions of the Dutch Seafarers Act, the Recognition Regulation Maritime Crews Trainings, and EU Directive 2008/106/EC as amended.
• IMO Model Course 1.27 – The Operational Use of Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (2012 Edition).
• NSI “Guideline Maritime Simulators” (version 3, January 2014) and Regulation I/12 of the annex to the STCW Convention, including the 2010 Manila Amendments.
Validity
Unlimited.

Five consecutive working days.

08:30 – 17:00 (daily).
