Introduction
Engine officers on board make daily decisions that directly impact the safety, efficiency, and reliability of ship operations. In addition to technical expertise, they are expected to demonstrate strong management skills and communicate effectively with both crew and shore-based personnel.
This course focuses on managing the engine room, leading technical teams, and developing leadership qualities within a maritime context.
The course can be followed at two locations:
Vlissingen: the complete program is delivered in one continuous period at the DRTC training center in Vlissingen.
Groningen/Delfzijl: when choosing the Groningen option, the program is divided into two parts:
Note: for the Ship Management course in Groningen, the first five days take place in Groningen and the final three days in Delfzijl. This combined setup offers an optimal blend of theory, simulation, and hands-on experience.
Objective
The Ship Management ERM/MCRM course aims to strengthen the management and decision-making capabilities of technical officers. Upon completion, participants will be able to lead engine room teams effectively, make responsible operational decisions, and act according to the principles of safety, efficiency, and teamwork.
MCRM Extension
After completing the 8-day Ship Management program, participants may opt for an additional two-day MCRM (Maritime Crew Resource Management) module at management level (HELM). This advanced training emphasizes leadership, teamwork, and human factors.
Participants learn how to enhance team effectiveness, manage communication and cultural differences, and apply human factor principles to prevent accidents at sea.
