During the one-day Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities (PSSR) training, participants learn how to function safely and responsibly on board a ship and contribute to a safe working environment. The course covers fundamental safety principles, the role of the crew in emergency situations, the importance of effective communication and teamwork, and adherence to procedures and safety regulations.

Attention is also given to human behavior, stress, and fatigue, and how these factors can influence safety. Upon completion of the training, participants understand their responsibilities regarding personal safety, social interaction, and compliance with international maritime safety regulations (STCW A-VI/1-4).

STCW - Personal Safety Social Responsibilities

Introduction
The STCW – Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities (PSSR) course is a one-day training program that forms part of the STCW Basic Safety Training. Participants learn how to function safely and responsibly on board and how to actively contribute to a safe and positive working environment. The course focuses on fundamental safety principles, the role of the crew in emergency situations, effective communication and teamwork, and compliance with procedures and safety regulations.
The training meets the requirements of STCW Code Section A-VI/1-4 and the Manila Amendments (2010).

Objective
The purpose of the training is to make participants aware of their personal responsibility for safety and behavior on board. Upon completion, participants understand the importance of discipline, teamwork, and safety culture, and how stress, fatigue, and human behavior can affect safety.

Target Group
This course is intended for all seafarers who are going to work on board a vessel and must meet the requirements of the STCW Basic Safety Training.

Practical info

Entry Requirements
Participants must hold:
• A valid medical certificate for seagoing service
• Good health and sufficient physical fitness to participate in the course
• Adequate command of the Dutch and/or English language

Course Content
The course consists of theoretical and interactive components, including:
• Personal safety and responsibility on board
• Communication and cooperation within a ship’s crew
• Behavior, attitude, stress, and fatigue in relation to safety
• Compliance with international safety regulations (ISM Code and STCW)
• Emergency procedures and the role of the crew during incidents

Certification
Upon successful completion of the course, participants receive the certificate:
Proficiency in Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities (PSSR),
in accordance with STCW Reg. VI/1, Section A-VI/1-4, Table A-VI/1-4.

Day 1 - PSSR

During the morning session, participants learn about personal safety and social responsibilities. In the afternoon, the program is supplemented with specific topics related to the fishing industry.

For seafarers and maritime professionals who must comply with international STCW requirements.

Yes, our STCW courses are recognised by the Dutch flag state (the Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate – ILT). Each certificate includes the relevant STCW reference, ensuring international recognition.

We offer Basic Training (BT), Advanced Fire Fighting (AFF), Medical First Aid (MFA), Medical Care (MC), Proficiency in (Fast) Rescue Boats (PSCRB/FRB), and Security Awareness/Designated Duties.

Most STCW certificates must be renewed every 5 years (depending on the module and sea time requirements). Check the course page for exact details.

Yes, a valid maritime medical certificate is mandatory for participation.

Bring valid identification, a medical certificate (mandatory), and swimwear/towel if the course includes a pool module. PPE and rescue equipment are provided by DRTC.

 

Courses are available in Dutch or English. Additional support for reading difficulties can be arranged on request.

You will receive a digital and/or physical certificate in compliance with STCW standards. The format may vary by course.

You can cancel your booking by contacting us via email or phone. For open enrolment courses you may cancel free of charge up to 5 working days before the start. For customised training you may cancel free of charge up to 14 working days before the start. If you cancel within those deadlines the full course fee will be invoiced.
