About this course

GWO MH + FAW

Introduction
The GWO Basic Safety Training Manual Handling (MH) + Fire Awareness (FAW) focuses on developing essential knowledge and skills for working safely in the wind industry. The course combines theory and practical exercises in realistic scenarios to promote safe behaviour, risk awareness, and effective action.

The training is suitable for personnel who work, or are going to work, onshore or offshore in the construction, maintenance, or servicing of wind turbines and wind farms. Upon successful completion, participants receive internationally recognised GWO certificates linked to their personal WINDA ID.

Objective
The objective of this course is to enable participants to work safely and effectively by providing them with the knowledge and skills required to recognise and respond to fires, as well as to safely lift, carry, and move loads within the wind industry.

Target Group
This course is intended for anyone who works, or is going to work, in the wind energy industry, both onshore and offshore. The training is particularly suitable for employees involved in the construction, maintenance, or servicing of wind turbines who may be exposed to physical and fire-related risks during their work.

  • hold a valid Winda ID (required for GWO registration).

Course content

GWO Manual Handling (MH)
This module teaches participants how to lift, move, and carry loads safely and efficiently within the wind industry.
Topics include:

  • applying correct lifting and working postures;
  • recognizing risks of overexertion and injury;
  • cooperating safely when handling heavy components;
  • applying ergonomic principles in confined spaces.
    The focus is on awareness and behavioral change — small adjustments in posture and technique significantly improve safety and long-term health.

GWO Fire Awareness (FAW)
This module focuses on preventing and fighting fires in and around wind turbines.
Topics include:

  • identifying and preventing fire hazards;
  • applying preventive measures;
  • using portable extinguishers safely;
  • performing evacuation procedures;
  • assisting colleagues in emergencies.
    Practical exercises are based on realistic scenarios to develop effective response and personal safety skills.

WINDA registration
All participants must register in WINDA, the international registration system of the Global Wind Organisation (GWO), before the start of the training. After registration, the participant will receive a WINDA ID, which must be provided when booking the course. Upon successful completion of the training, DRTC will automatically link the training records to the participant's WINDA account.

Registration: https://winda.globalwindsafety.org/

Validity
GWO training records are valid for two years.
The refresher training must be completed before the current training record expires. If the record has expired, the refresher training can no longer be taken, and the relevant initial training must be completed again.
