About this course

GWO Enhanced First Aid (EFA)

Introduction
The GWO Enhanced First Aid training is intended for situations where professional medical assistance may not be immediately available. Participants learn how to safely assess, treat and stabilise a casualty until professional help arrives. This includes the use of enhanced first aid techniques, advanced first aid equipment and medical teleconsultation.

Objective
After completing the training, participants are able to independently provide safe and effective lifesaving and enhanced first aid in a wind turbine environment. Participants also learn how to use advanced first aid equipment and medical teleconsultation.

Target group
The training is intended for personnel working in the wind industry or related sectors who work in or around wind turbines, wind farms or offshore wind installations. In particular, the training is aimed at personnel who have been designated by their employer to provide Enhanced First Aid.

Entry requirements
Participants must:

  • be physically capable of taking part in all practical exercises;
  • have a WINDA ID (mandatory for GWO registration).

Course content
The GWO Enhanced First Aid training covers topics including:

  • risks, hazards and emergency procedures;
  • anatomy, physiology and casualty assessment;
  • incident management and medical teleconsultation;
  • primary and secondary assessment according to the C-ABCDE principle;
  • treatment of severe bleeding, airway and breathing problems;
  • CPR, AED and advanced first aid equipment;
  • treatment of various injuries and acute illnesses;
  • pain management and possible medication;
  • psychological first aid;
  • practical scenario-based exercises.

Certification
After successful completion of the training, participants are eligible to receive both the GWO First Aid (FA) and GWO Enhanced First Aid (EFA) certificates. The completed training records are registered in WINDA.

Validity
The GWO Enhanced First Aid training is valid for 24 months. To maintain validity, the GWO Enhanced First Aid Refresher must be completed before the current training record expires.

The course is approved by the Global Wind Organisation (www.globalwindsafety.org).

WINDA registration
A personal WINDA profile is mandatory for participation. Participants must provide their WINDA ID when registering for the course. After successful completion, the GWO training records will be added to the participant’s personal WINDA profile.

  • STCW – including Basic Training, Advanced Fire Fighting, Proficiency in Survival Craft (PSCRB/FRB), Medical First Aid, Medical Care and Security Awareness.
  • GWO – Basic Safety Training (BST) and individual modules such as Working at Height, First Aid, Fire Awareness, Manual Handling, Sea Survival and Enhanced First Aid.

For (future) wind technicians, HSE staff, and support personnel working onshore or offshore in the wind energy industry.

We offer the full Basic Safety Training (BST) and individual modules such as Working at Height, First Aid, Fire Awareness, Manual Handling, and Sea Survival. Refresher courses and Enhanced First Aid are also available.

GWO certificates are valid for 24 months. Be sure to complete your refresher course before expiry.

Basic fitness is required. Depending on your employer’s policy, a maritime or offshore medical examination may be mandatory.

Bring valid identification, any required medical certificate, sports or swimwear, and a towel for pool sessions. All PPE and safety equipment are provided by DRTC.

Courses are conducted in Dutch or English. We can provide support for participants with dyslexia or reading difficulties; please inform us in advance.

At our own training locations or, where permitted, in-company.

You will receive your certificate immediately at the end of the training. We will upload your certification details to the WINDA database.
