GWO WAH + MH + FA

Introduction
This combined training course offers a balanced mix of theory and practical exercises, allowing participants to apply their knowledge in realistic working situations under the guidance of experienced instructors. Upon successful completion, participants will have the required certification and the confidence to work safely at height, handle loads ergonomically, and provide effective first aid within the wind industry.

Objective
The objective of this course is to provide participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to work safely at height, perform manual handling tasks using ergonomic techniques, and respond appropriately to medical emergencies. These competencies contribute to maintaining a safe working environment within the wind industry.

Target Group
This combined course is intended for current and future professionals working in the wind industry or related sectors who require valid GWO certifications for Working at Heights, Manual Handling, and First Aid.

Course Content

GWO Working at Heights (WAH)
The Working at Heights module focuses on performing work safely at height within the wind industry. Participants learn how to correctly use personal fall protection equipment, rescue equipment, and evacuation procedures.

During this module, participants will learn how to:

  • safely climb and descend wind turbines;
  • inspect and correctly use personal fall protection equipment;
  • work with positioning and back-up systems;
  • perform basic rescue procedures using approved rescue equipment;
  • identify hazards and apply emergency procedures.

The module combines theory with intensive practical exercises, increasing safety awareness and confidence while working at height.

GWO Manual Handling (MH)
The Manual Handling module teaches participants how to safely and ergonomically lift, carry, and move loads within the wind turbine industry.

During this module, participants will learn how to:

  • apply correct lifting techniques and working postures;
  • prevent physical strain and injuries;
  • identify risks associated with manual handling tasks;
  • work safely together when moving heavy components;
  • apply ergonomic working methods, even in confined spaces.

The training focuses on awareness, correct body mechanics, and safe working practices during manual handling tasks.

GWO First Aid (FA)
The First Aid module prepares participants to provide first aid in the wind industry, where professional medical assistance may not always be immediately available.

During this module, participants will learn how to:

  • recognise and assess emergency situations;
  • perform life-saving first aid procedures;
  • stabilise casualties until professional medical assistance arrives;
  • provide first aid for burns, hypothermia, severe bleeding, fractures, and other common injuries;
  • communicate effectively with emergency services and colleagues during emergency situations.

The practical exercises are based on realistic scenarios commonly encountered within the wind industry.

Certification
Upon successful completion of the course and assessment of all required competencies, participants will receive internationally recognised GWO certificates for:

  • Working at Heights (WAH)
  • Manual Handling (MH)
  • First Aid (FA)

All certificates are registered in the WINDA database.

Validity
The certificates are valid for 2 years.

To maintain certification, participants must complete the relevant GWO Refresher courses before the certificates expire.

Practical Information
Duration: 3 consecutive days
Training hours: 08:30 – 17:00
Certification: The training is recognised by the Global Wind Organisation (GWO) - www.globalwindsafety.org

WINDA Registration
All participants must register in WINDA before attending the training. Registration is mandatory for anyone working within the wind industry.
After registration, participants receive a personal WINDA ID, which must be provided when booking the course.
Upon successful completion of the training, DRTC will register the achieved certificates in the participant's personal WINDA account.

Working at Height Tower

The Working at Height Tower has been specifically designed for training participants in safe working, rescue, and evacuation techniques at height. The tower is widely used for GWO (Global Wind Organisation) courses, such as Working at Heights, and also provides training opportunities for offshore, maritime, and industrial scenarios.

What makes this tower unique is its versatility: participants can practice fall protection, climbing and descent techniques, as well as rescue and evacuation procedures. With multiple platforms and training stations, the tower is suitable for both basic and advanced levels.

Who is it for?

The Working at Height Tower is used by wind industry teams, offshore and maritime personnel, industrial technicians, and emergency responders who need to work safely at height or on elevated installations.
