Day 1 - Theory and Introduction to Helicopter Firefighting

The Helicopter Firefighting course begins with an introduction, safety briefing, and the fundamental principles of helicopter fire response. Participants learn about helicopter design and construction, different helicopter types, and key precautions for crashes and fire incidents. The session also covers incident reporting, emergency equipment, and extinguishing agents, concluding with a case study in preparation for the practical drills.

Day 2 - Practical Exercises and Emergency Scenarios

Day two focuses on realistic firefighting exercises. Participants conduct multiple drills, starting with cooling, search & rescue exercises using training smoke, followed by live-fire scenarios involving real flames and smoke. Additional drills include a baggage compartment fire, cockpit smoke with casualties, and a major crash with a spill fire and multiple victims. The course concludes with a final group evaluation.

Realistic training for helideck teams

Helicopter Fire Fighting (Offshore)

The Helicopter Fire Fighting (HFF) training is designed for Helicopter Landing Officers (HLO) and Helicopter Deck Assistants (HDA) involved in helicopter operations on offshore installations without a fuel supply.

What makes this training unique is the use of realistic scenarios in which participants must respond to a helicopter fire on the deck. The helideck team usually consists of only two people — the HLO and HDA — both of whom must be able to act quickly, safely, and in coordination to rescue crew and passengers.

Who is it for

This training is intended for HLOs and HDAs working on offshore installations where helicopter operations take place. The course specifically focuses on situations where no refueling facilities are present.
