The GWO Manual Handling + Sea Survival Refresher is a practical combination course in which participants refresh their knowledge and skills in safe and ergonomic working practices and safe conduct during offshore operations. The course covers the responsible lifting, moving and handling of loads and prepares participants for routine activities and emergency situations between the shore, an installation vessel and a wind turbine. Theoretical instruction is combined with realistic practical exercises, including exercises in an indoor swimming pool using approved training equipment.

GWO MH-R + SS-R

Introduction
During this refresher course, participants learn how to reduce physical strain and prevent injuries by applying correct lifting and working techniques. They also practise how to act safely during vessel transfers, emergencies at sea and evacuations from offshore installations.

The course takes place under controlled conditions and consists of theoretical and practical exercises based on situations within the wind energy industry. Safe working practices, cooperation, risk awareness, ergonomics and practical learning are central to the course.

Objective
The objective of the GWO Manual Handling + Sea Survival Refresher is to refresh previously acquired knowledge and skills. Upon completion, participants will be able to perform physical tasks safely and ergonomically and respond appropriately during transfers and emergency situations at sea.

Target Group
This combination course is intended for personnel who work or will be working in the wind energy industry or related sectors and who need to renew both their GWO Manual Handling certificate and their GWO Sea Survival certificate.

Practical info

Entry Requirements

  • You must be physically capable of participating in all practical exercises.
  • Due to the use of personal protective equipment, your body weight must not exceed 120 kilograms.
  • You must hold a valid Working at Heights certificate.
  • If you use medication, you must mention this when booking the course.
  • If the medication limits your ability to participate, the booking will be cancelled free of charge.

Certification
The course has been developed based on the GWO Manual Handling and Sea Survival modules and complies with the international standards of the Global Wind Organisation.

After successfully completing the course and demonstrating the required competencies, participants will receive two officially recognised certificates:

  • GWO Manual Handling;
  • GWO Sea Survival.

Validity
The certificates are valid for two years.

After this period, the relevant refresher courses must be completed again to maintain the validity of the certificates.

WINDA Registration
All participants must register in WINDA before attending the GWO Manual Handling + Sea Survival Refresher. Registration is mandatory for anyone who wants to work in the wind energy industry.

After registration, the participant will receive a WINDA ID. This number must be provided when booking the course. After certification, DRTC will link the obtained GWO Manual Handling and GWO Sea Survival certificates to the participant’s personal WINDA account.

The GWO Manual Handling Refresher focuses on refreshing safe lifting and handling techniques to prevent physical strain and injury. Participants practice lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling loads, and learn to work ergonomically in various positions. The course emphasizes risk awareness, correct posture, and injury prevention.

Day 1 - Sea Survival refresher

The GWO Sea Survival Refresher provides a review of essential knowledge and skills for working safely and surviving in offshore environments. Participants refresh their understanding of emergency procedures, hypothermia management, and the use of lifejackets, immersion suits, and life rafts. Practical exercises include controlled water entries, survival techniques, and safe transfers between vessels and installations.
