The GWO Manual Handling, First Aid and Fire Awareness Refresher is a combined refresher training course in which participants renew their knowledge and skills in ergonomic working practices, first aid and fire safety. The training combines theory with realistic practical exercises and focuses on safe working, risk awareness and effective action within the wind energy industry.

About this course

GWO MH-R + FA-R + FAW-R

Introduction
During this combined refresher training, participants learn how to act safely and responsibly in and around wind turbines. They practise lifting, carrying and moving loads correctly, providing first aid in the event of accidents and medical emergencies, and recognising and controlling fire risks.

The Manual Handling module focuses on ergonomic working methods, correct posture and preventing physical strain. First Aid focuses on life-saving actions, treating and stabilising casualties, and communicating with professional emergency services. During Fire Awareness, participants practise evacuation procedures and the safe extinguishing of an initial fire using suitable portable firefighting equipment.

Throughout the training, personal safety, teamwork, risk awareness and effective action are central.

Objective
The objective of the GWO MH-R + FA-R + FAW-R is to refresh and strengthen previously acquired knowledge and skills. After completing the training, participants can lift, carry and move loads safely and ergonomically. They can also recognise medical emergencies, provide life-saving first aid, and treat and stabilise casualties. In addition, they can assess fire risks, apply evacuation procedures and, when it is safe and responsible to do so, extinguish an initial fire.

Target group
This training is intended for employees who work or will be working in the wind energy industry or related sectors and who need to renew their GWO Manual Handling, GWO First Aid and GWO Fire Awareness certificates.

The First Aid module is also suitable for seafarers and technicians renewing their certification in accordance with the 1985 IMO/ILO Document for Guidance.

 

Practical info

Entry requirements

  • Participants must be physically capable of performing all practical exercises.
  • Due to the use of personal protective equipment, participants must not weigh more than 120 kilograms.
  • Participants must not suffer from dizziness or vertigo.
  • The use of medication must be reported when booking the course.
  • If medication prevents safe participation, the booking will be cancelled free of charge.

Certification
After successfully completing the training and demonstrating the required competencies, participants will receive officially recognised GWO certificates for the following modules:

  • GWO Manual Handling;
  • GWO First Aid;
  • GWO Fire Awareness.

The course components are based on the corresponding GWO modules and comply with the international standards of the Global Wind Organisation.

Validity
The Manual Handling, First Aid and Fire Awareness certificates are valid for two years. To maintain their validity, the corresponding GWO refresher training courses must be completed again before the expiry date.

The rates stated on the website apply to the current calendar year and are indexed annually.

WINDA registration|
Before the start of the combined GWO refresher training, all participants must register in WINDA. This registration is mandatory for anyone wishing to work in the wind energy industry.

After registering, the participant will receive a personal WINDA ID. This number must be provided when booking the course. After successful certification, DRTC will link the Manual Handling, First Aid and Fire Awareness certificates to the participant’s personal WINDA account.
