The GWO Working at Heights, First Aid and Fire Awareness Refresher is a practical combined training course in which participants refresh their knowledge and skills in working safely at height, first aid and fire safety within the wind energy industry. The training combines theory with realistic practical exercises and focuses on risk awareness, safe behaviour and effective action during emergency situations.

About this course

GWO WAH-R + FA-R + FAW-R

Introduction
During this combined refresher training, participants learn how to work and act safely in and around wind turbines. They practise realistic situations involving working at height, medical emergencies and fire-related incidents.

During Working at Heights, participants practise using harnesses, fall protection systems, work positioning systems and rescue equipment. First Aid focuses on life-saving actions, stabilising casualties and communicating with professional emergency services. During Fire Awareness, participants learn to identify fire risks, evacuate safely and extinguish an initial fire using suitable portable firefighting equipment.

Throughout the training, the focus is on personal safety, risk awareness, cooperation and effective action during emergency situations.

Objective
The objective of this combined refresher training is to renew and strengthen previously acquired knowledge and skills. After completing the training, participants are able to work safely at height and correctly use fall protection and rescue equipment. They are also able to recognise medical emergencies, provide life-saving first aid, stabilise casualties, assess fire risks, evacuate safely and, when it is safe and appropriate to do so, extinguish an initial fire.

Target Group
This training is intended for employees who work or will work in the wind energy industry or related sectors and who need to renew their GWO Working at Heights, GWO First Aid and GWO Fire Awareness certificates.

The First Aid component is also suitable for seafarers and technicians who wish to renew their certification in accordance with the IMO/ILO Document for Guidance from 1985.

 

Practical info

Entry Requirements

  • Participants must be physically capable of completing all practical exercises.
  • Due to the use of personal protective equipment, participants may not weigh more than 120 kilograms.
  • Participants must not suffer from a fear of heights.
  • Any medication use must be reported when booking the course.
  • If medication use prevents safe participation, the booking will be cancelled free of charge.

Certification
After successfully completing the training and demonstrating the required competencies, participants will receive officially recognised GWO certificates for the following modules:

  • GWO Working at Heights;
  • GWO First Aid;
  • GWO Fire Awareness.

The individual course components are based on the corresponding GWO modules and comply with the international standards of the Global Wind Organisation.

Validity
The Working at Heights, First Aid and Fire Awareness certificates are valid for two years. To maintain their validity, participants must complete the relevant GWO refresher training courses again before the certificates expire.

The prices listed on the website apply to the current calendar year and are adjusted annually.

WINDA Registration
Before the start of the combined GWO refresher training, all participants must register in WINDA. This registration is mandatory for everyone who wishes to work in the wind energy industry.

After registering, participants will receive a personal WINDA ID. This number must be provided when booking the course. After successful certification, DRTC will link the completed Working at Heights, First Aid and Fire Awareness certificates to the participant’s personal WINDA account.
