The GWO Working at Heights, Manual Handling and Fire Awareness Refresher is a combined refresher training course for professionals working in the wind energy industry. During this training, participants refresh their knowledge and skills relating to working safely at height, working ergonomically, and preventing and fighting fires. The training consists of theoretical and practical exercises and focuses on safe behaviour, risk awareness, and effective action during daily activities and emergency situations.

About this course

GWO WAH-R + MH-R + FAW-R

Introduction
During this combined refresher training, participants learn how to work safely and responsibly in and around wind turbines. They practise realistic scenarios focusing on working safely at height, handling loads correctly, and fire safety.

Participants refresh their knowledge of using personal protective equipment, harnesses, fall arrest systems, work positioning systems, and rescue equipment. They also practise correct lifting and working techniques to prevent physical strain and injuries. During the Fire Awareness section, participants learn how to identify fire hazards, assess fire risks, evacuate personnel safely, and extinguish an incipient fire using suitable basic firefighting equipment.

Throughout the training, the emphasis is on cooperation, personal safety, risk awareness, and effective action during emergency situations.

Objective
The objective of this combined refresher training is to refresh and strengthen previously acquired knowledge and skills. After completing the training, participants will be able to work safely at height and correctly use fall protection and rescue equipment. They will also be able to handle loads safely and ergonomically, identify fire risks, carry out evacuation procedures, and, when it is safe to do so, extinguish an incipient fire using suitable firefighting equipment.

Target Audience
This training is intended for personnel who work or will be working in the wind energy industry or related sectors and who need to renew their GWO Working at Heights, Manual Handling, and Fire Awareness certificates.

Practical info

Entry Requirements

  • You must be physically capable of participating in all practical exercises.
  • Due to the use of personal protective equipment, your body weight must not exceed 120 kilograms.
  • You must not suffer from a fear of heights.
  • If you use medication, you must mention this when making the booking.
  • If the use of medication restricts your ability to participate in the training, the booking will be cancelled free of charge.

Certification
After successfully completing the training and demonstrating the required competencies, participants will receive officially recognised GWO certificates for the following modules:

  • GWO Working at Heights;
  • GWO Manual Handling;
  • GWO Fire Awareness.

The different course components have been developed in accordance with the relevant GWO modules and comply with the international standards of the Global Wind Organisation.

Validity
The Working at Heights, Manual Handling, and Fire Awareness certificates are valid for two years. To maintain their validity, the relevant GWO refresher training must be completed again before the certificates expire.

The rates shown on the website apply to the current calendar year and are adjusted annually.

WINDA Registration
Before the combined GWO refresher training begins, all participants must register as a participant in WINDA. Registration is mandatory for everyone who wants to work in the wind energy industry.

After registration, you will receive a personal WINDA ID. This WINDA ID must be provided when booking the course. After successful certification, DRTC will link the Working at Heights, Manual Handling, and Fire Awareness certificates obtained to the participant’s personal WINDA account.
