GWO FA-R + SS-R

The GWO First Aid + Sea Survival Refresher is a practical combined training course that prepares participants to act safely and effectively within the wind energy industry. During the course, knowledge and skills relating to medical assistance are combined with safe working practices during offshore operations, boat transfers and emergency situations at sea. The training consists of theoretical instruction and realistic practical exercises, including exercises in an indoor swimming pool using approved training equipment.

About this course

GWO FA-R + SS-R

Introduction
During this refresher training, participants learn how to respond appropriately to accidents and medical emergencies in a wind turbine environment. They also learn how to act safely during boat transfers, emergencies at sea and evacuations from offshore installations.

The training consists of a combination of theoretical instruction and realistic practical exercises. The main areas of focus include performing life-saving procedures, stabilising casualties, communicating with emergency services, using rescue equipment and applying offshore emergency procedures. Emphasis is placed on risk awareness, teamwork, safe working practices and the confidence to make the correct decisions during emergency situations.

Objective
The objective of the GWO First Aid + Sea Survival Refresher is to review and strengthen previously acquired knowledge and skills relating to first aid and safe working practices at sea. After completing the training, participants will be able to recognise medical emergencies, perform life-saving procedures and stabilise casualties. They will also be able to carry out safe boat transfers, apply emergency procedures, use rescue equipment and respond appropriately to man-overboard incidents and other offshore emergencies.

Target Group
This course is intended for personnel who work or will be working in the wind energy industry or related sectors and who are required to renew both their GWO First Aid certificate and their GWO Sea Survival certificate.

The First Aid component is also suitable for seafarers and technicians who wish to renew their certification in accordance with the guidelines of the IMO/ILO Document for Guidance (1985).

Practical info

Entry Requirements

  • Participants must be physically capable of taking part in all practical components.
  • Due to the use of personal protective equipment, participants must not weigh more than 120 kilograms.
  • Participants must hold a valid Working at Heights certificate.
  • Any use of medication must be reported when making the booking.
  • If the use of medication prevents participation in the training, the booking will be cancelled free of charge.

Certification
After successfully completing the course and demonstrating the required competencies, participants will receive an officially recognised GWO First Aid certificate and an officially recognised GWO Sea Survival certificate.

The course is based on the GWO First Aid and Sea Survival modules and complies with the international standards of the Global Wind Organisation.

Validity
The GWO First Aid and GWO Sea Survival certificates are valid for two years.

To maintain the validity of both certificates, the relevant refresher training courses must be completed again before the certificates expire.

WINDA Registration
All participants must register in WINDA before attending the GWO First Aid + Sea Survival Refresher. Registration is mandatory for anyone wishing to work in the wind energy industry.

After registering, the participant will receive a WINDA ID. This number must be provided when booking the course.

After successful certification, DRTC will register the participant’s GWO First Aid and GWO Sea Survival certificates in their personal WINDA account.
