About this course

STCW - Advanced Training for ships operating in Polar waters

Introduction
Operating ships in Arctic and Antarctic waters requires specialized knowledge and decision-making skills. This advanced course builds upon the STCW Basic Polar Training and equips participants with the competence to plan and execute voyages through ice-covered waters safely. The training is approved by the Netherlands Shipping Inspectorate (NSI) and combines theoretical instruction with simulator-based exercises that replicate realistic polar scenarios.

Objective
The objective of the STCW Advanced Polar Training is to develop advanced competence in ice navigation and polar operations. After completing the course, participants will be able to plan and conduct voyages in compliance with the Polar Code, manage risks related to low temperatures and ice conditions, ensure safe vessel operations, and apply environmental protection measures during polar navigation.

Target group
This course is intended for masters and chief mates serving on ships operating in polar waters who are responsible for voyage planning, navigation, and operational safety in polar environments.
