Entry requirements
- Participants must be physically fit to complete all practical components.
- Maximum body weight: 120 kilograms due to the use of personal protective equipment.
- Participants must not suffer from vertigo.
- Any medication use must be reported at the time of booking; if restrictive, the booking will be cancelled free of charge.
Course content
GWO Working at Heights (WAH)
Focuses on safe work at height in the wind industry, covering the correct use of personal fall protection, rescue equipment, and evacuation procedures. Participants will practice climbing, descending, and performing basic rescues from turbine environments.
GWO Manual Handling (MH)
Teaches participants how to lift and move loads safely and ergonomically. The course emphasizes posture, teamwork, and body mechanics to prevent injury and promote long-term physical health.
GWO Fire Awareness (FAW)
Provides knowledge and skills to recognize, prevent, and respond to fire incidents. Participants practice using portable fire extinguishers, executing evacuation procedures, and supporting colleagues during emergencies.
GWO First Aid (FA)
Covers the principles of first aid in the wind industry. Participants learn to assess emergencies, perform life-saving procedures, treat injuries and burns, manage hypothermia and shock, and communicate effectively with rescue services.
Certification
Upon successful completion and assessment, participants receive separate internationally recognized GWO certificates for:
- Working at Heights (WAH)
- Manual Handling (MH)
- Fire Awareness (FAW)
- First Aid (FA)
All certificates are registered in the WINDA database.
Validity
Certificates are valid for 2 years. After this period, a refresher course must be completed for each module to maintain validity.

WINDA registration
All participants must register in WINDA prior to attending the GWO Combi Training. Registration is mandatory for anyone working in the wind energy sector.
After registration, a WINDA ID will be issued and must be provided upon booking.
Upon certification, DRTC will link the obtained certificates to the participant’s personal WINDA account.
