IntroductionThis specialized training prepares offshore personnel to safely operate and command Fast Rescue Crafts (FRCs) under emergency conditions. The course combines theoretical instruction with intensive hands-on training, including realistic sea-based rescue exercises, navigation practice, and leadership during search and recovery operations. Course TypeEmergency Training (Specialist) Target GroupThis course is intended for offshore personnel designated as coxswain or crew of a Fast Rescue Craft (FRC) on offshore mining or oil and gas installations.
ObjectiveThe aim of the NOGEPA 2.3A Coxswain FRC course is to train participants in readiness checks, safe launching, maneuvering, recovery operations, and the leadership required for conducting search and rescue operations using FRCs. Learning ObjectivesParticipants will learn to: Inspect and ensure the readiness and maintenance condition of the FRC Apply seamanship principles such as determining course, compass steering, and use of onboard equipment Recover and transport casualties from the water Lead and coordinate all actions during man-overboard and rescue operations Conduct launch, recovery, and navigation procedures under varying sea conditions Execute search patterns using navigation tools (compass, PLB, direction finder, GPS) Participate in a capsize drill (mandatory for initial training) Practical ExercisesPractical sessions focus on realistic rescue operations where participants practice launching, handling, navigating, and coordinating rescue activities using FRCs under supervision. Practical Exercise Conditions Maximum of 3 participants per instructor Minimum of 2 instructors present during each session to ensure safety and proper supervision Entry Requirements Valid Offshore Medical Certificate required Participants must be physically fit to perform sea-based exercises Course Duration Basic course: 2.5 days Refresher course: 1 day ValidityThe certificate is valid for 2 years. After this period, participants must complete a refresher course to renew their certification. Remarks The basic course may be combined with NOGEPA course 2.7 (C or F), extending total duration to 4 days. An STCW certificate for “Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats (PSCRB)” issued within 2 years prior to enrolment may be accepted for refresher entry.
