About this course

GWO WAH-R + MH-R + FA-R

Introduction
During this combined refresher training, participants learn how to work safely at height in and around wind turbines, reduce physical strain and respond appropriately to accidents and medical emergencies.

The Working at Heights section covers the use of harnesses, fall arrest equipment, work positioning systems and rescue equipment. Manual Handling focuses on safe lifting techniques, ergonomics and the correct handling of loads. The First Aid section covers life-saving actions, casualty stabilisation and communication with professional emergency services.

The course combines theoretical instruction with realistic practical exercises. The main focus is on risk awareness, safe behaviour, teamwork and effective action in emergency situations.

Objective
The objective of the GWO WAH-R + MH-R + FA-R is to refresh and strengthen previously acquired knowledge and skills. After completing the course, participants will be able to work safely at height, lift and move loads correctly and ergonomically, and provide appropriate first aid during accidents and medical emergencies within the wind energy industry.

Target Group
This combined training course is intended for personnel who work or will work in the wind energy industry or related sectors and who need to renew their GWO Working at Heights, GWO Manual Handling and GWO First Aid certificates.

Day 1 - Safe Work and Rescue at Height - Day 1

This refresher course combines all key elements of safe working and rescue at height into one intensive day. Participants review fall risks, the inspection and use of personal protective equipment, and fall arrest systems. Practical exercises include realistic rescue and evacuation scenarios focused on teamwork, communication, and responsibility. The day concludes with an evaluation and WINDA registration.

Day 1 - First Aid refresher - Day 1

The GWO First Aid Refresher course is designed for participants wishing to renew their valid GWO First Aid certificate and refresh essential life-saving skills. This one-day training combines theoretical review with realistic hands-on practice. The day begins with an introduction, safety briefing, and a review of GWO requirements, followed by a session on anatomy and the body’s main vital functions to help recognize life-threatening conditions.

Practical exercises cover the C-A-B-C-D-E approach, CPR and AED use, management of choking and suffocation, and first aid for severe bleeding and shock. The course also addresses psychological aspects of accidents, including stress and multi-casualty situations (triage). Participants demonstrate their competencies through realistic accident simulations with casualty actors (LOTUS). The training concludes with a group debrief and evaluation.

Day 2 - Manual Handling refresher - Day 2

The GWO Manual Handling Refresher focuses on refreshing safe lifting and handling techniques to prevent physical strain and injury. Participants practice lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling loads, and learn to work ergonomically in various positions. The course emphasizes risk awareness, correct posture, and injury prevention.
