About this course

Basic training for service on ships subject to the IGF Code

Introduction
As the maritime industry increasingly adopts alternative fuels such as LNG, the need for trained professionals capable of handling these fuels safely has grown. This training introduces participants to the fundamental principles of fuel system operations, risk management, and emergency procedures on ships subject to the IGF Code. The course combines theoretical instruction with hands-on exercises to promote safe working practices and a strong understanding of fuel handling procedures.

Objective
The objective of this course is to equip participants with the basic competence required to work safely on ships that use gases or other low-flashpoint fuels. Upon completion, participants are able to recognize potential hazards, take preventive measures to avoid incidents, respond appropriately in emergency situations, and apply safety and pollution prevention procedures in compliance with international standards and the IGF Code.

Target group
This course is intended for all seafarers who are assigned specific duties and responsibilities related to the care, use, or emergency response of fuel systems on IGF Code-compliant vessels.
