Introduction
Throughout the training, participants learn how to act quickly and effectively in medical emergencies. The course combines theoretical instruction with demonstrations and practical exercises, emphasizing lifesaving actions, communication with emergency services, and building confidence to handle crisis situations.

Objective
The objective of the First Aid Basic Course (Oranje Kruis) is to equip participants with the ability to responsibly provide first aid during accidents or medical emergencies. The training covers recognizing disorders of vital functions, stabilizing casualties, and performing first aid until professional help arrives.

Target group
The course is intended for anyone aged 16 and older who wishes to obtain a full First Aid diploma. It is ideal for both private individuals and professionals responsible for health and safety in workplaces or public environments.

Course content
The First Aid Basic Course includes the following subjects:

  • Human body knowledge: anatomy, physiology, and recognizing medical conditions
  • Vital function disorders: consciousness, breathing, and circulation problems
  • Local disorders and shock: wounds, bruises, bleeding, and shock management
  • Emergencies and accidents: burns, poisoning, electric shock, and drowning
  • Special skills: CPR and AED use, minor injury care, and bandaging techniques

Certification
Upon successful completion, participants receive the officially recognized First Aid Diploma issued by Het Oranje Kruis. This diploma certifies the participant’s competence in providing first aid safely and effectively.

Validity
The diploma is valid for two years. To maintain validity, refresher training must be completed within this period to ensure that all skills and knowledge remain up to date.

Day 1 - Life-Saving Techniques

Introduction to first aid principles and the role of the responder. Recognizing emergencies, assessing consciousness and breathing, controlling bleeding, placing victims in the recovery position, and managing shock. CPR and AED training.

Day 2 - Injuries and Wounds

Treatment of common injuries including wounds, fractures, burns, bruises, and eye injuries. Use of bandages and support materials. Managing choking, fainting, hypothermia, heat exhaustion, and minor accidents. Communication and reassurance techniques.

Day 3 - Scenarios and Examination Preparation

Practical scenarios involving multiple victims and various injuries. Integration of all skills, teamwork, and decision-making under pressure. Review of CPR and AED procedures. The day concludes with assessment and preparation for the official Oranje Kruis examination.

DRTC provides a wide range of accredited safety courses for the maritime, offshore, wind and industrial sectors.

  • STCW – including Basic Training, Advanced Fire Fighting, Proficiency in Survival Craft (PSCRB/FRB), Medical First Aid, Medical Care and Security Awareness.
  • GWO – Basic Safety Training (BST) and individual modules such as Working at Height, First Aid, Fire Awareness, Manual Handling, Sea Survival and Enhanced First Aid.

  • VCA: usually valid for 10 years
  • BHV: recommended or required annually by most organisations
  • First Aid: validity depends on the certification body, usually annual maintenance and reassessment within 2 years

Yes, we offer blended learning options combining online theory with a shorter practical session.

Bring valid identification and comfortable clothing. For forklift or aerial platform training, safety shoes are required. PPE will be provided where necessary.

For some courses, you can choose VAT exemption. This means the training will be invoiced without 21% VAT. The exemption applies only to recognised vocational training programmes that fall under official supervision by organisations such as ILT, OPITO, GWO, or NOGEPA.

Choose VAT exemption if you are taking the course for professional purposes or as a private individual without VAT deduction rights.
Choose including VAT if you are booking on behalf of a company that can reclaim VAT from the Dutch Tax and Customs Administration.

Your invoice will then state:
“Exempt from VAT under Article 11, paragraph 1, section o of the Dutch VAT Act 1968.”

Yes, at DRTC we provide online training and e-learning modules. For example, we offer the online Maritime Dutch Law Assessment.
If you are interested in a specific topic or module for online completion, feel free to contact us so we can explore what options are available.

You can cancel your booking by contacting us via email or phone. For open enrolment courses you may cancel free of charge up to 5 working days before the start. For customised training you may cancel free of charge up to 14 working days before the start. If you cancel within those deadlines the full course fee will be invoiced.
