The GWO Manual Handling, Fire Awareness and Sea Survival Refresher is a combined two-day refresher training course for professionals working in the wind energy industry. During the training, participants refresh their knowledge and skills in ergonomic working practices, fire safety and safe conduct during offshore operations and emergency situations at sea.

About this course

GWO MH-R + FAW-R + SS-R

Introduction
During this combined refresher training course, previously acquired knowledge and practical skills from the Manual Handling, Fire Awareness and Sea Survival modules are reviewed and reinforced.

Participants practise lifting, carrying, pushing and moving loads safely and ergonomically. They also learn how to identify fire risks, take preventive measures, carry out evacuation procedures and extinguish an initial fire using portable firefighting equipment.

During the Sea Survival module, participants practise safe transfers between a vessel and an offshore installation, the use of survival equipment and the correct response during evacuations and emergency situations at sea. Personal safety, teamwork and risk awareness are central throughout the training.

Objective
The objective of the GWO MH-R + FAW-R + SS-R is to refresh and further strengthen the participants’ existing knowledge and skills.

After completing the training, participants will be able to lift, carry and move loads safely and ergonomically. They will be able to identify fire hazards, take appropriate measures, apply evacuation procedures and, when it is safe to do so, extinguish an initial fire. In addition, they will be able to act safely during offshore transfers, use survival equipment correctly and respond effectively during evacuations, man-overboard situations and other emergencies at sea.

Target audience
This course is intended for personnel who work or are planning to work in the wind energy industry or related sectors and who need to renew their GWO Manual Handling, Fire Awareness and Sea Survival certificates.

The training is particularly suitable for employees involved in the construction, maintenance or servicing of offshore wind turbines and wind farms.

Practical info

Entry requirements

  • Participants must be physically capable of taking part in all practical exercises.
  • Due to the use of personal protective equipment, the maximum permitted body weight is 120 kilograms.
  • A valid GWO Working at Heights certificate is required to participate in the Sea Survival module.
  • The use of medication must be reported when making the booking.
  • If the use of medication prevents safe participation, the booking will be cancelled free of charge.

Certification
After successfully completing the training and receiving a satisfactory assessment of the required competencies, participants will receive three separate, officially recognised GWO certificates:

  • GWO Manual Handling Refresher;
  • GWO Fire Awareness Refresher;
  • GWO Sea Survival Refresher.

Validity
The certificates are valid for two years. To maintain their validity, the relevant GWO refresher courses must be completed again before the certificates expire.

The prices stated on the website apply to the current calendar year and are indexed annually.

WINDA registration
All participants must register in WINDA before starting the GWO MH-R + FAW-R + SS-R course. This registration is mandatory for everyone who wishes to work in the wind energy industry.

After registering, the participant will receive a personal WINDA ID. This number must be provided when booking the course. After successful certification, DRTC will link the obtained Manual Handling, Fire Awareness and Sea Survival certificates to the participant’s personal WINDA account.
