The ADN Refresher Course is designed for crew members who wish to renew their valid ADN certificate. During this mandatory refresher training, key safety procedures, emergency measures, and recent amendments to the ADN Agreement are revisited. You will refresh your knowledge on the safe transport of dangerous goods, risk recognition, and the correct response to incidents aboard tank vessels.

ADN Refresher

Introduction
The ADN Refresher Course is intended for crew members and shore-based personnel who hold a valid ADN certificate and wish to update their knowledge and skills.
This two-day practical training reviews the most important aspects of transporting dangerous goods on inland waterways, in accordance with the latest ADN Agreement requirements and CCNR regulations.

Objective
The course aims to provide participants with up-to-date knowledge on the safe transport, handling, and classification of dangerous goods aboard tankers and dry cargo vessels.
After completion, participants will be fully informed about the latest legal requirements, safety procedures, and operational guidelines applicable under the ADN framework.

Target Group
The ADN Refresher Course is intended for crew members working on tank vessels that transport dangerous goods on inland waterways and who hold a valid ADN certificate that is about to expire.

Entry Requirements
Minimum age: 18 years
Participants must hold:

A valid ADN basic or specialized certificate due for renewal;
A valid inland shipping medical certificate;
Good physical condition and health, sufficient to take part in practical exercises (such as emergency situations, evacuations, and fire scenarios).

Course ContentThe refresher course consists of both theoretical and practical components. Topics include:

Introduction and structure of the ADN Agreement;
Classification of dangerous goods, packaging groups, and labeling;
Product knowledge and properties of dangerous substances (chemistry and physics);
Exemptions and limited quantities;
Cargo handling, loading and unloading;
Segregation rules and safety procedures;
Use of documentation, markings, and transport regulations;
Incident response and emergency procedures.

The training is conducted by experienced ADN instructors and fully complies with the latest requirements of the CCNR (Central Commission for the Navigation of the Rhine) and the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management.

Participants: Minimum 6, maximum 12

Schedule: 08:30 – 16:30 (each day)

Certification: Upon successful completion, the existing ADN certificate is renewed for an additional five years.

Practical training with portable fire extinguishers

Small Fire Extinguisher Training Area

Participants learn how to safely and effectively extinguish fires using handheld and portable fire extinguishers. Training takes place in realistic outdoor fire scenarios, allowing trainees to experience firsthand how different extinguishers work and what their limitations are.

What makes this facility unique is the hands-on approach to a variety of fire situations — from small liquid and gas fires to solid materials. Participants not only practice firefighting techniques but also learn to assess safety, distance, and the appropriate extinguishing strategy.

Who is it for

The Small Fire Extinguisher Training Area is used by maritime personnel, offshore teams, industrial emergency responders, and emergency response officers (BHV) who need to know how to control small fires quickly and effectively.

What you’ll practice

Under the guidance of experienced instructors, participants will learn to:

Identify different types of fires and select the appropriate extinguishing agent
Use portable extinguishers (powder, foam, CO₂) effectively
Extinguish small liquid and gas fires
Approach safely and aim extinguishers accurately
Understand the limitations and capabilities of portable fire extinguishers
Ensure personal safety and assess risks during firefighting
