About this course

STCW - Theorie & Praktijk Examen - Marcom B

Introduction
The Marcom-B examination assesses theoretical knowledge and practical competence required for operating maritime radio communication systems on inland and coastal waters. It is intended for seafarers and crew members responsible for radio communications on vessels that are not subject to full SOLAS regulations but must comply with GMDSS requirements for limited sea areas.
DRTC manages the entire administrative process, including registration for the CBR theory exam and organization of the practical exam at DRTC Vlissingen.

Objective
The examination ensures that the candidate can:

  • perform maritime radio communications safely and correctly within GMDSS limitations;

  • initiate and receive distress, urgency, and safety traffic according to international procedures;

  • correctly operate VHF and DSC equipment in inland and coastal navigation areas.

Examination Components

  1. Theory Examination (CBR) – regulations, procedures, and technical knowledge (GMDSS, ITU, basic SOLAS principles).

  2. Practical Examination (DRTC Vlissingen) – operation of maritime communication equipment including VHF, DSC, Inmarsat-C, and NAVTEX.
