BHV – E-Learning Refresher: Fire & Evacuation / Life-Saving Skills

Introduction
This self-paced course combines theoretical modules, interactive videos, and realistic scenarios to strengthen both awareness and practical response capabilities. Participants learn how to act quickly and confidently in emergency situations while ensuring personal and team safety.

Objective
The goal of this course is to refresh and maintain the knowledge and skills of certified emergency responders. Designed for professionals already familiar with basic emergency procedures, the training ensures that participants remain competent in providing first aid, fighting fires, and managing evacuations effectively.

Target group
This course is intended for employees who are part of their company’s emergency response organization and responsible for first aid, firefighting, alerting, and evacuation.

Course content
The BHV Refresher E-learning covers the essential aspects of emergency response, including:

  • Review of basic emergency response knowledge
  • Assessment of emergencies and alert procedures
  • Life-saving techniques such as CPR and AED use
  • Firefighting and the correct use of extinguishers
  • Evacuation procedures and safety coordination
  • Communication and teamwork during emergencies
  • Scenario-based exercises and applied protocols

Certification
Upon successful completion, participants receive an officially recognized certificate of participation, confirming renewed competence as an emergency responder.

Validity
The certificate is valid for one year from the date of issue. If a refresher is not completed within three months after expiry, the full basic course must be retaken.

Day 1 - Firefighting and Life-Saving Skills Refresher

This refresher course is for emergency response officers who need to renew their certification in both fire response and first aid. Participants complete an online e-learning module covering fire behavior, extinguishing methods, evacuation procedures, and life-saving actions.

The practical session focuses on realistic scenarios, including extinguishing small fires, using extinguishers, performing CPR and AED use, and providing first aid for injuries. The day concludes with an evaluation and renewal of the BHV certificate.

  • VCA: usually valid for 10 years
  • BHV: recommended or required annually by most organisations
  • First Aid: validity depends on the certification body, usually annual maintenance and reassessment within 2 years

Bring valid identification and comfortable clothing. For forklift or aerial platform training, safety shoes are required. PPE will be provided where necessary.

  • STCW – including Basic Training, Advanced Fire Fighting, Proficiency in Survival Craft (PSCRB/FRB), Medical First Aid, Medical Care and Security Awareness.
  • GWO – Basic Safety Training (BST) and individual modules such as Working at Height, First Aid, Fire Awareness, Manual Handling, Sea Survival and Enhanced First Aid.
  • NOGEPA – Basic Offshore Safety, Helicopter Underwater Escape (HUET), Sea Survival, Fire-fighting and specialised refresher courses.
  • BHV/First Aid/VCA – Basic and refresher courses in Emergency Response, First Aid and Safety Certification for all sectors.

Yes, we offer refresher modules for many of our courses. The validity of certificates depends on the standard and course.

For some courses, you can choose VAT exemption. This means the training will be invoiced without 21% VAT. The exemption applies only to recognised vocational training programmes that fall under official supervision by organisations such as ILT, OPITO, GWO, or NOGEPA.

Choose VAT exemption if you are taking the course for professional purposes or as a private individual without VAT deduction rights.
Choose including VAT if you are booking on behalf of a company that can reclaim VAT from the Dutch Tax and Customs Administration.

Your invoice will then state:
“Exempt from VAT under Article 11, paragraph 1, section o of the Dutch VAT Act 1968.”

You can cancel your booking by contacting us via email or phone. For open enrolment courses you may cancel free of charge up to 5 working days before the start. For customised training you may cancel free of charge up to 14 working days before the start. If you cancel within those deadlines the full course fee will be invoiced.
